Regions of Europe

Based on the example of some regions in Europe we will prepare concise descriptions of minority regions. These will provide an overview of the general situation of the region, the history, legal status, language and education and also the organisations of the minorities.

Over many centuries these regions have been characterised by different cultures and languages living together – including neighbouring languages and regional and minority languages – and they exhibit natural multilingualism and linguistic diversity.

In particular the multilingual regions of Belgium, Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands form the starting point for the European language campaign language diversity. We want to use the existing potential to work on a positive attitude towards languages and to bolster motivation for language learning, but we also want to emphasise that border regions function as role models.
